Housing affordability budget promises will likely drive up prices

Federal budget measures to help first home buyers and single parents risk inflating a record $8.1 trillion housing market, economists warned, because they spur demand without boosting supply. UDIA vice-president Max Shifman said the focus must be on building new homes to sustain jobs during the recovery.

As I told the Australian Financial Review: “Ensuring these places are directed towards construction of new homes will help generate the demand needed to sustain jobs during the economic recovery, and help balance the market over the longer-term”
