Federal Labor proposes a high-speed rail authority to plan a Sydney–Newcastle link with $500m initial funding, then Brisbane–Melbourne via Canberra at more than 250km/h. UDIA president Maxwell Shifman says the plans must be carefully tuned so housing, jobs and amenities are mapped ahead of any transport rollout.
As I told the Australian Financial Review: “High-speed rail plans have to be carefully tuned to ensure we link future cities [and] have well-thought-out, strategic plans that map the housing, jobs and amenities well ahead of any transport rollout,”
I also said: “This can all be achieved, but it needs careful planning involving government, industry and business to ensure the plan builds a better future.”
