Today Department of Transport and Planning (re-)announced their updated plans for the 10 activity centres around metro Melbourne. The centres are the same; the "news" is that the structure planning process will be "fast tracked" by the Victorian Planning Authority to take 1 year instead of 5.

In short, there is a world of difference between these centres having the theoretical capacity for an extra 60,000 dwellings, and 60,000 dwellings actually being delivered during the #housingstatement period (or ever) which will not happen.
I've also thoroughly explained why scale apartments won't be feasible across Victoria for years due to the other imposts that have been introduced which impact apartment construction and feasibility. There is no likelihood anything that matters will change materially given the current budgetary situation.
It’s disheartening to see the focus on the same, ineffective policy approaches despite the clear evidence that they won't work. We need more attention on encouraging housing choices that are desirable, feasible and affordable for more homebuyers – this isn't it.
