Cut 30pc tax on build-to-rent in budget, property leaders say

Ahead of the March 2022 federal budget, UDIA president Maxwell Shifman urged adoption of the Falinski committee's housing recommendations, including review of build-to-rent and land tax, and equal tax treatment for BTR so it can attract domestic and international institutional capital through managed investment trusts.

As I told the Australian Financial Review: “We want to see the Falinski recommendations adopted in full, including the review into BTR and land tax,”

I also said: “Given the capital requirements, BTR needs the ability to attract large investment funds from both domestic and international funds, both of which usually invest through managed investment trusts,”
